How is the Stimulus money being spent?

StimulusWatch.org was built to help the new administration keep its pledge to invest stimulus money smartly, and to hold public officials to account for the taxpayer money they spend. According to their web site, "We do this by allowing you, citizens around the country with local knowledge about the proposed "shovel-ready" projects in your city, to find, discuss and rate those projects. These projects are not part of the stimulus bill. They are candidates for funding by federal grant programs once the bill passes".  In other words, once the Recovery and Reinvestment Act is signed by President Obama on the 16th February, then all the projects that have been planned by the local governments, can be activated based on moneys allocated to those areas by the Act.

It's good that people know where these jobs came and infrastructure improvements came from. Besides, the armed forces and military industrial complex spend many times this amount on advertising.

Sure. However stop and consider how many of these "stimulus" projects fall under the constitution. The military is one of the few responsibilities the Federal government is tasked with.

Golf courses, convention centers, walking trails, new housing for poor people, and dog park construction are all very interesting projects but fall way outside the feds arena.

If the government is going to spend this money, it should be spent on projects that both create jobs and benefit the public. The signs may create jobs, but the product does not benefit the public at all. Fixing one of our many deteriorating bridges, fixing a damaged road, etc. will both create jobs and benefit the public by improving infrastructure.
